Artificial Intelligence in companies: they must stay ahead of regulations

At the working breakfast held by our firm on Artificial Intelligence, our experts were clear: companies must stay ahead of regulations. The speed at which technology advances is faster than the speed at which legislation advances, and although we do not yet have specific regulations in Spain, there is already a mandatory European regulation.

Ramón Mesonero-Romanos, partner in the data protection area, and Ingrid González, manager in the area, offered attendees a practical session on how to correctly implement Artificial Intelligence tools and projects in companies, complying with all legal guarantees, as reported by Confilegal.

One of the recommendations offered by our expert lawyers is the creation of an Artificial Intelligence committee in companies: “There is a need for a figure in companies who is understood to be a guardian of data. We are committed to the AI Committee model. In this way, decision-making is pluralized among the areas in which Artificial Intelligence will be involved.”

One of the main dilemmas is ownership between the owner of the information and the developer of the AI tool and algorithm: “if a supplier's algorithm is being trained using a company's data, there may be a conflict in its commercialization,” our speakers pointed out. And for this reason, they added: “the company must demand ownership of the developments that are going to be produced.”
