Alejandro Alonso, partner in the commercial law department, analyzes in his new article for VPC Magazine the new information tool on cosmetic ingredients launched by the European trade association Cosmetics Europe.
Our lawyer explains: “At the EU level, there is a database called CosIng that groups together the common names of cosmetic ingredients for labeling purposes, which have been compiled and updated by the EU Commission.” He adds that although it is “a database of purely informative content and scope with no legal value,” it contains “information on cosmetic substances and ingredients contained in the European Parliament Regulation; in Directive 76/768/EEC; in the glossary of common names of ingredients; and in opinions on cosmetic ingredients.”
The tool launched by the European trade association Cosmetics Europe, which provides information on cosmetic ingredients, although it has no legal value, represents a “commitment by the European cosmetics industry to provide consumers with transparent information not only on the ingredients in cosmetic products, but also on the reason for their inclusion and their properties.”
Our commercial expert welcomes this initiative, which helps consumers understand “the consequences of improper or non-recommended use, and highlights the existence of many products on the market, unfortunately still too many, that do not offer the guarantees or properties they claim to have.”
